Let’s talk spark arrestor maintenance.

These pesky little fellers can cause all sorts of issues when they’re not maintained. And yes—we can already hear the old timers yelling, “Just rip ’em out and toss ’em!” Sure, that’s a technique… but definitely not a recommended one.

If you’re a business owner, OSHA requires them. If you’re cutting at home, they help reduce the risk of forest fires. No matter how you feel about them, spark arrestors are a necessary component of your equipment.

When they clog, they bog down your machine and rob it of power. This string trimmer’s spark arrestor had never been cleaned, and the owner was running a heavy 2-stroke oil mix. It had almost no power—and now we know why.

Annual maintenance can prevent this nuisance and keep your equipment running at full strength.
